Biographical / Historical note:Lydia Howard Sigourney, American poet. Most of her works were published under her married name, Mrs. Sigourney.

Summary:Box 1 contains correspondence and writings. The correspondence includes autograph manuscript letters and notes, dated 1811-1864. Correspondents include Henry Barnard, Reverend and Mrs. James D. Butler, J. C. Clement, G & C Merriam, Phillip Ripley, and Harriet Watson. Writings are autograph manuscript and typescript drafts and fragments of poems, dated 1812 to 1854. Also included are photostat copies of correspondence and poems.
Box 2 contains an autograph manuscript of A Work on Prayer: Written in Early Life, dated 1812 May.
Box 3 contains a quill pen; a chip of wood from White Elms in Sigourney, Iowa; and two portraits of Sigourney: an engraving and a carte-de-visite.
